I love cooking and baking even more than I love writing product reviews, so decided to do a quick write-up of the Artisan Stand Mixer. One of my girlfriends who runs a business making wedding cakes recently purchased the KitchenAid Artisan 5-Quart Mixer. Of course, one of her requirements was that it be a color that matches the decorating in her kitchen on top of being a solid, durable product that could meet her needs.

She did a lot of research before making a purchase, so I had her help me out by explaining what she found to be the major advantages of this particular mixer.

Apparently there’s a lot more to a mixer than just what color it comes in!

What’s Up with Wattage?

The KitchenAid 5 Quart Stand Mixer features a 325-watt mixer. It’s important to have high wattage in your mixer if you plan on mixing anything with a stiff consistency.

For example, a low wattage mixer will have a tough time mixing something like bread dough. That’s not a problem here though, with 325 Watts you can rest assured that you can mix just about anything using the KitchenAid mixer!

Thanks to its high wattage, the KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer can handle the heaviest mixtures or large batches with ease.

Multiple Speeds for Smoother Transitions

Some ingredients need to be mixed slowly (such as egg yolks). The multiple speed settings allow you to pick the right speed for the job!

No matter whether you need a high speed while mixing your egg whites and sugar for meringues, or a slow speed while mixing bread dough, the Kitchen Artisan Stand Mixer offers multiple speeds to fit all of your needs.

Thorough Mixing Made Easy

By having the beater spin clockwise while the shaft spins counter clockwise, the KitchenAid mixer allows the beater to move to an amazingly large number of points around the bowl.

What does this mean for you? It means that the mixer will create an extremely thorough blend of your ingredients and will eliminate the need for you to rotate the bowl yourself.

Is it Big Enough?

This mixer is a great example of a professional grade mixer scaled down for use in your home kitchen!

Since you won’t usually be cooking for 50 or more people, the 5 quart mixing bowl is the perfect size for use at home. It can help create small mixtures, but is still large enough to handle the largest mixtures that you will need for home use.

Another great feature of the KitchenAid’s mixing bowl is that it features an ergonomically designed handle. This design feature makes it much easier to lift the bowl while taking a lot of the strain off of your hands and wrists.

Get Easy Access!

The tilt-back head is superb for allowing you to have access to your mixtures when they’re finished. Simply tilt back the head to easily remove the bowl. This is also a great feature when it comes time for cleanup.

You don’t have to worry about the head coming loose while it’s mixing either. The KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer features a locking lever to hold the head in place and fasten the bowl tightly to the machine’s base.

Reducing the Mess Means Less Clean-Up!

The 2-piece pouring shield features a chute which makes it ideal for adding ingredients – even while it’s in the process of mixing your batch.

Another thing that I find handy about the pouring shield is that it covers the bowl so your lighter ingredients won’t come flying out of the top and making a mess while you’re mixing at higher speeds.

Includes Extra Attachments for More Versatility

The KitchenAid 5-Quart Mixer includes three attachments which help you have the right tool for the job. The included attachments are:

Flat Beater – This attachment is perfect mixing normal and heavier batters such as cake mixes and cookie dough.
Dough Hook – The dough hook attachment is ideal for mixing up dough that contains yeast. This will save a lot of time while making bread… not to mention saving your arms and wrists from having to knead the dough by hand.
Wire Whip – A great attachment when you’re mixing up lighter and fluffier whipped mixtures such as creams.

How Much Space Do You Need?

The KitchenAid mixer is small enough to fit nicely on your counter with the dimensions being 14 inches x 8 ¾ inches x 14 inches. This means that you can easily find a place to set it on your kitchen counter.

If you’re cramped for space, you can always store it when it’s not in use because it’s relatively easy to move by weighing in at about 22 pounds. Although, with the wonderful design and multiple color choices that this mixer has, you’ll probably prefer to leave it out to show it off!
